The Clarksville, TN Agency Receives the
Better Business Bureau's
"Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics"

In April 2002, The Clarksville, TN Agency of the American National Insurance Company was been awarded the coveted "Torch Award" for marketplace integrity and ethical conduct by their local branch of the Better Business Bureau in the very small business category. Out of 80 businesses that were nominated from 12 Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky counties only one insurance organization received this highest award.

The Council of Better Business Bureaus established an annual awards program in 1996 to gain public recognition for American companies that maintain a solid commitment to conducting their business practices in an ethical fashion. The "Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics" is designed to promote not only the importance of ethical business practices, but the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure that our country's marketplace remains fair and honorable for all Americans. The Torch Award personifies the Better Business Bureau's long-standing efforts to foster the highest ethical relationship between businesses and the public.

At the awards banquet, which was attended by nearly 200 local businesses, educators, politicians and other dignitaries, the Chairman of the BBB Branch Office Advisory Board, Mr. Edward Rufo, said "We believe it's time to shine a light on those companies who step up to the place of honor and integrity on a daily basis. They are the backbone of our business community, and deserve to be honored." The judges for this event were Dr. Carmen Reagan, Director of Leadership Studies & Professor of Marketing, Austin Peay State University; Russell Worsham, Director/Financial Report, Dollar General; Col. Richard Hatch, Staff Judge Advocate, 101st Airborne, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Paul Foshee, Forshee, Inc.; and James Corlew Sr., James Corlew Chevrolet-Cadillac-Oldsmobile.

Recipients of the local "Torch Award" program are automatically nominated to compete for the National BBB Torch Award which was presented in April of 2003. Gary L. Davis, LUTCF, Multiple-Line General Agent accepted the award for his agency.
